Documentary!!! MARLEY - premiering 4/20/2012...

The world knows Nester Robert Marley's story already, but I'm sure that people all over the world will want to see this documentary. I LIVE for these types of films! I only wish that there were more directors out there who would shine a light on Caribbean people and our music.I'm still trying to find out where I can see Nice Time's "Hit Me With Music." #thestrugglecontinues

Oh... and yes... we all get the significance of the release date of this particular film. I'm of the opinion that the marketing department at Magnolia Films either smokes marijuana and thought it'd be funny, or they're just very ignorant of the stereotypes being propogated to mainstream audiences. Either way, I shake my head at you for that, Magnolia. #shade

Still, I celebrate the upcoming release of this film and I look forward to soaking in some crazy rants from Bunny Wailer over a hot bag of movie theatre popcorn.

For more information, please check out the film's website.

Enjoy.

REVIEW!!! The Help

Always better to read the book AFTER seeing the movie
Well, good people, I saw The Help this week. While I sat there watching the story unfold, I had a nagging, confused feeling. Reading this review by an American journalist, Valerie Boyd, (after the jump) cleared up my nagging feeling and made me realize something very striking!! It's 2011, y'all. We're in a new century, a new millennium. Notice how we haven't had a major studio movie like Mississippi Burning or A Time to Kill (Sam Jackson's paternalistic fury in that movie was golden) in movie theaters until this one?? The Help falls significantly short of the disgusting, hard-to-watch, heinously evil and yet historically accurate depictions of inequality in the South in feature films.

Then again, this movie focuses on the lives of Southern WOMEN, not men. Notice that??

The rest of my thoughts, along with the link to Valerie Boyd's review and Official Featurette of The Help (Video) after the jump...

DOCUMENTARY!!! MTV's "Drake: Better than Good Enough"

*** Hello lovelies and lovers!! Been gone for a while but I had to re-evaluate what I wanted to do with my site. I've come up with a few ideas and I can't wait to share them with you all later on. For now, I'll start with my love for music industry-based documentaries. I'd like to begin the exposure with tonight's post. In brief, this is an hour-long documentary chronicling Drake's last few days on his "Away from Home" tour before the release of Thank Me Later. This aired on MTV on June 23rd, but I haven't watched this in full just yet.  As soon as I finish, I'll share my thoughts with you! Please enjoy!!  PS: please allow the vid to load or finish buffering, there's a lot of traffic watching the same thing. Please be patient :) ***
